The Handmaid’s Tale is one of the most acclaimed series of today. Based on Margaret Atwood’s work, Hulu’s production has been a hit with both the public and the critics.
Starring Elisabeth Moss (who won several awards for her performance as June), the series is set in a Christian fundamentalist dystopia in which women basically lose all rights. The reality of the series may not be so far from our current political perspective, with attacks on women’s rights happening every day.
The third season of The Handmaid’s Tale focuses on the resistance struggle against Gilead’s theocracy and premiered last week. Check out what to expect from the new episodes:
June’s choice
It is worth remembering that in the final episode of The Handmaid’s Tale’s second season, June finally got a chance to escape to Canada. However, in an impressive turnaround, she decides to stay in Gilead and fight for her daughter Hannah. She delivers her baby to Emily, who promises to take care of little Nicole on her journey to freedom.

Aunt Lydia
The hated Aunt Lydia was stabbed by Emily in one of the most satisfying scenes of the series. At the time of the episode’s showing, the character’s fate remained open. However, teasers and trailers of the new season reveal that she survived the attack, and must seek revenge on the new episodes. According to showrunner Bruce Miller, Aunt Lydia did not die, but underwent a major transformation.
Serena Joy
Serena Joy and June seem to be working together. They even share a cigarette by the pool. Serena Joy was one of the characters that developed most during the two seasons of The Handmaid’s Tale. Beginning the series as a bitter supporter of a regime that oppresses women aggressively, she changes her mind and realizes the results of her mistakes.
