The Oscars 2019 ceremony is set to suffer one of the most radical reinventions since the beginning of the Award’s long history. For the first time in about 30 years, the biggest night in the movie industry will go on without a host.
The decision was made after Kevin Hart’s dropped out from the role, hours before being selected. The comedian stepped down from Oscars host duties after the controversy around his history of homophobic statements.
According to the commediant: “This is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists. I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past.”
Now, instead of replacing Hart, the academy will select a list of celebrities to introduce various segments of the show. So far, none of the names have been disclaimed.
After refusing the part, Hart was interviewed in the Ellen DeGeneres show. Albeit the academy looked at the interview as a chance for Hart to redeem himself, their plans backfired. Instead, he was made out to be a victim of interests and haters.
According to sources, the Academy was furious with the show’s outcome. Supposably Ellen had twisted a phone conversation with an unnamed Academy official.
Now the return of Hart as this year’s host of the Oscars is definitely out of the table. We’ll just have to wait and see who are the celebrities replacing him.
