The Cannes Film Festival is the most fashionable event on the red carpet calendar. One of the biggest film festivals in the world, the event is not just celebrity appearances on the Croisette’s red carpet, but also includes parties, dinners, receptions, daytime premieres… What does all this mean? A lot of beautiful outfits and the latest trends.
Latest trends in few words:
Retro: vintage perfume hangs in the air and incarnated by the younger actresses. Elle Fanning, for example, was inspired by the glamor of the 1940’s and the pastel-colored satins and buffing sleeves of the 1930’s.
Embroidery: from 100% embroidered looks to mirrored beads or sequins, the celebrities were competing with the Cannes sun (see Margot Robbie and Julianne Moore).
Goodbye, minimalism: in addition to the excess glitters, volumes, frills, brocades, matelasses and tulles in layers appeared in weight.
Elle Fanning
One of the highlights of the event has been Elle Fanning. Who, at 21, is the youngest juror to attend the festival’s banquet. For the screening of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, the actress incarnated all the galmour of the 50’s in a Dior look that was entitled to hat and vintage pose.

For the red carpet, Robbie chose a set of embroidered pants and regalia from a couture collection Chanel 2011.
Penelope Cruz
Channel also dressed one of the greatest veterans of the festival. Penelope Cruz – who was a friend of Karl Lagerfeld, made a point of marching to the brand in the last season of fashion Paris, in honor of the death of the stylist – set the wardrobe with the brand. For the premiere of the new film by Pedro Almodóvar, Dor e Glória, and of which she is protagonist, Cruz chose a lace dress from the summer couture collection 2019.
