Mindfulness: what it is and why you need it.

Live in Enjoy the moment, now!

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is not a new concept, but there are few people who can actually understand and achieve it.

In today’s society, it’s easy to get lost in our daily lives. Whether you’re a student, mother or worker, everyone has responsibilities they need to deal with daily.  Sometimes, however, it can all get a little too much, right? Haven’t you ever felt overwhelmed? Like you just can’t handle everything or aren’t able to enjoy the moments?

Then this article is for you. Although its an undervalued concept, we all need to be more aware of the present.

What is mindfulness?

Being mindful means being conscious and aware of where we are and what we are doing. By successfully achieving it, you can enjoy the present without becoming overwhelmed by your surroundings.

This is a natural quality, that you already possess. You don’t need to buy anything to get it, instead you just need to create space to yourself – space to breathe, think, and space yourself from your reactions.

What do you need to know?

The goal of mindfulness isn’t to quiet your mind. This is a common mistake, as practicing mindfulness is usually associated with yoga and other practices. In fact, the goal here is simple: paying attention to the moment, free from judgement.

As you’re paying attention to your mind and body at the present moment, you’ll actually see many thoughts arise. Relax, that’s absolutely normal. You can’t quiet your mind. It’s part of human nature to wonder, and it’s also part of being mindful – because when you notice your mind wondering, than you can always bring it back.

The judgement part of it, is harder to master. We’re all guilty of listening to our heart and forming prejudices, probably more than we should. Now if you practice identifying these feelings, you can learn to choose how to read and react to them. Recognize the sensations they might leave in your body and let those go as well.

It’s all about being able to return to the moment, again and again.
