Chanel closed Paris Fashion Week at Grand Palais in the very heart of Paris.
Idealized by Karl Lagerfeld, Chanel Collection was transformed into an artistic performance taking spectators back to summer vacations. The director brought the beach theme to the Chanel Spring 2019 Cruise collection.
The Grand Palais was transformed into a blue-skied beach for the presentation of Chanel’s Spring/Summer collection. The stage included a sand runway where models showed the latest trends, walking around sand and by the water.
The set gathered sandy dunes, an artificial sea with gently undulating waves, a lifeguard and Baywatch star.
All the brand’s signature couture touches were there. Glittering, flowery, crystal embroidery and little black tulle dresses fit most select beach villa soirées.
Summer dresses, hats, cashmere tweed jackets, blazers and bike shorts were the key master pierces. Yellow beige and mints were the predominant colors, also the brand’s name in capital letters was everywhere.
… and an army of celebrities.
The show was marked by the presence of celebrities everywhere. Watching from the dunes: Thai princess Sirivannavari Nariratana, singer Pharrell Williams and actress Pamela Anderson. Walking the runway: Cara Delevingne and Cindy Crawford’s daughter, Kaia Gerber.
Models walked along the beach barefoot through whispering waves which lapped onto the white sand. Then they slipped into clear PVC double C logo slides as they walked up the stairs by the photo pit, to finish their runway walks along a boardwalk.
The show also proposed a new originated way of wearing Chanel’s bags: two at a time.
Karl Lagerfeld insisted that the only thing better than a Chanel bag, is having two. He sent out his models carrying two classic Chanel bags slung across the body, one in each hand, like a pair of six-shooters.
The nautical theme was a constant presence on the runway, mixed with Chanel’s signature tweed.
Chanel took inspiration from women who leave in Cambon Paris street but left their daily routine to surrender to a beach vacation in the South of France. A winningly youthful collection was produced to lift the spirits of jaded fashionistas.
